The Hurst Police Investigations Division is staffed by fifteen
employees divided among three sections. These sections are Criminal
Investigations, Youth Services, and Special Investigations. All
crimes reported after the fact are assigned to a Detective based
on the Detectives areas of expertise, primary case assignments,
and workload. The Detectives investigate each case based on a priority
level that is determined by certain solvability factors. These factors
include the class of crime, the threat of violence associated with
the crime, the number of witnesses, whether or not the suspect has
been identified and the ease with which he can be identified, the
availability of evidence, and so forth. Once assigned, the case
is investigated by the Detective until it is closed by arrest or
exceptional means, unfounded, or inactivated due to lack of leads.
