Animal Adoption Policies and Procedures

An individual, 18 years or older, may adopt an animal from the City of Hurst Animal Shelter under the following conditions:

• The animal has been classified as adoptable, by Hurst Animal Services.
• The prospective Adopter has proper facilities and means to care for the animal.

Procedure

The adoption procedure requires that:

• The prospective adopter will satisfactorily fill out questionnaire/application.
• The prospective adopter will present a valid form of identification.
• The prospective adopter will provide proof of residency.
• The prospective adopter will provide pet agreement from landlord (if renting).
• The prospective adopter will pay necessary fees.
• The prospective adopter will provide proof that animal has been vaccinated and sterilized as set out in the agreements *if applicable.
• All adoptions are subject to approval by the Supervisor of Animal Services.

Refund Policy: If an adopter returns the animal to the animal shelter within 10 days from the adoption, they will receive a full refund.  If the animal is returned after 10 days, and before 30 days a partial refund of $25 will be given to the adopter.
