Firefighter Minimum Employment Requirements
- Must be a citizen of the United States and be able to provide
documented proof of identity and employment eligibility.
- Must be at least 18 but not more than 35 years of age.
- Must be certified as an EMT-Paramedic by the Texas Department
of Health.
- Must possess a currently valid Texas driver's license with a
good driving record.
- Must be able to successfully pass a rigid physical examination.
- Must possess visual acuity of 20/40 or better in each eye,
correctable to 20/20 binocular vision and no color blindness.

- Must possess hearing to the equivalency of 15-15 (be able
to hear a whispered voice at 15 feet).
- Must successfully pass a physical agility test and a polygraph
examination.
- Must have an honorable discharge if served in the military service.
- Must not be addicted to any barbiturate, narcotic, or the excessive
use of alcohol. Applicant must pass a drug screen.
- Must be of good moral character and reputation. Convictions
or pending charges of any crime involving moral turpitude will
disqualify an applicant.
- A thorough investigation will be made of applicants through
the Police Department. Any misrepresentations or vital omissions
in the application will be grounds for refusing admission to an
examination, for rejection after certification for appointment,
or for dismissal after being appointed.
- Cannot be a relative of a present Fire Department employee.
- All applicants for beginning positions in the Fire Department
who are hired after October 1, 2002 will, as a condition of employment,
be required to become certified as a structural firefighter by
the Texas Commission of Fire Protection.
The following copies are to be submitted with application:
- Birth Certificate (State Registered)
- High School transcript (from last high school attended)
- Certification as an EMT-P, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic,
by the Texas Department of Health
- DD-214 (long form - member 4) - if served in the military
