Library Parking Lot Expansion
The Library Parking Lot Expansion, along with the new entrance from Pipeline Road, is nearing completion. Crews have poured the curbs, and are preparing for asphalt. The new parking area will be the designated parking space for construction crews and equipment when it is completed sometime near the end of this month.

Library Book Drop
Now fully bricked, the new Library Book Drop and sorting room will offer patrons a place to return materials 24/7, with two drop windows - one that will be automated and offer a receipt, and the other a basic drop-slot for patrons who don't need a receipt, or for use during power outages and the like.

Small Activity Room Windows
Window installation has begun. The Small Activity Room will then see drywall installation, interior door frames, finishing, and may actually be open for use by the end of the month!

Storefront Framing

Projector Lifts in the Large Program Room Ceiling
The Large Program Room will feature projectors and screens that drop down from the ceiling for use - one for each side when the room is divided.

Large Program Room
Brick is being added to the exterior walls of the Large Program Room, as well as the other new areas of the Library. The walls will match the original building, with darker brick columns accenting the new areas.

Inside the New Library Entrance Hall
A peek inside reveals some of the interior walls separating the Large Program Room from the new Entrance Hall, which will feature information screens and exhibit space, as well as new front bathrooms, seating, and a cafe area in addition to the two entrances into the new Program Room.

The interior space for the new Automated 24-hour, Drive-thru Book Drop will house a state-of-the-art materials sorter, which will make it easier to get returned items back on the shelves faster!

Parking Lot Grading
Crews began preparations for the addition to the Library parking lot in the area between The Library Park and Pipeline Road. The spaces to be added to the Library's parking area will more than double the current number, and include a new entrance from Pipeline Road.

The Frame for the Smaller Activities Room

The Hurst Overland Readers Railroad
The Library's resident model railroad specialists - Library Manager Jesse Loucks and volunteer Phil Dunlop - got the lines running again in Youth Services, just in time for patrons of all ages to Catch the Reading Express - this year's theme for the Texas Summer Reading Club Program. The Stage is Set
Crews poured the concrete footings and set pad elevations for the foundation where the new Large Program Room is to be constructed.
New Library Entrance Open
Patrons will now enter the Library from the New Entrance Corridor, located just East of the Construction Area Fence (to the right of the Construction Area from the parking lot). The Construction Area has now been closed off to allow patrons to safely utilize Library Services throughout this phase of the project.

Crews today installed a fence around the front of the Library. Until the New Entrance Corridor is ready for use, patrons will be permitted inside the now fenced-in construction zone to enter the library through the still-open original entry-way.

Exterior Materials Return Drop-Boxes
Drop-Boxes for materials returns - one for DVDs, CDs and other media; one for books - are now located at the Library's back entrance on the West side of the building, just past the now fenced-in original materials return slot.
The New Library Entryway
Doors have been put in place on the new entrance corridor, and soon the ramp leading to it will be in place. Once ready, the original front entrance will be closed off, and construction on the largest portion of the expansion can begin. So in the coming weeks, expect to enter your Library from a new angle!

Temporary Entrance Corridor
Walls and a new entrance corridor have been constructed in preparation for what will be the main Library entrance for the duration of the project. The Youth Media & Reading Areas, the front entrance to the Library, and the front public restrooms have been affected, and will soon be blocked off completely. Public restrooms are still available in the building, near the Computer Center.

Youth Services Area
Much of Youth Services had to be rearranged. Board Books and the Parenting Collection are now in the Southeast corner of the building, and Activity Computers are next to the Youth Desk. Youth Internet Computers are still available through the Computer Center.
