On January 16, 1949, the Church of Christ in Hurst, Texas had its beginning in a new building located at 914 W. Hurst Boulevard. That day 39 members met together as a body of Christians. |
Much credit for the construction and establishment of the church is due to members like T.J. Page (first Mayor of Hurst) and Grady Walker (Hurst's Railroad Station Manager), who worked unceasingly on behalf of the first church building and the growing congregation. T.J. Page also raised funding and support for the church, as did Mrs. L.M. Fredrickson, other area Churches of Christ, and the Fort Worth Sand & Gravel Company. Fred Hinds was responsible for construction, and J.O. Chambers provided some loan financing.
J.C. Cash was the first regular minister, Jim Ramfield the song director, and the first elders were T.J. Page and Grady Walker. C.J. Emmons and Bates Fanning served as the first Deacons. |
