Welcome to the eleventh issue of Where We Live.
It’s been a busy summer at Hurst City Hall, and
we are already gearing up for a fantastic fall and
holiday season. Not that we anticipate the hot
Texas temperatures letting up anytime soon…
Regardless of the weather, we’ve got a lot of
great things planned for our city this season. In
this issue you’ll read about all the happenings
around town this summer and what you can look
forward to this fall. Articles include nformation
on how your student can join other outstanding
area students involved in Youth In Government,
details about our grand opening festivities for
the Hurst Conference Center, how you can
follow your city through social media, and what’s
going on at the Hurst Public Library and the
Hurst Senior Citizen’s Activities Center. Just to
name a few. In the recreation section you’ll get
the scoop on Campfire Stories, the John Butler
Memorial Senior Citizens Banquet and of course,
the Christmas Tree Lighting. Read the magazine.
Fans to Help Beat the Heat
The Hurst Fire Department and Police Community Services are working together to provide a better quality of life to Hurst residents who have a special need. Several fans have been generously donated to the fire department to be delivered to residents that do not have air conditioning.
If you know of someone that lives in Hurst and needs special assistance due to the heat (especially seniors or small children), contact Patty Gurley at 817.788.7238 or Evelyn McAmis at 817.788.7342.
We can deliver a fan and have members of the COPS program check on their welfare.
We're doing more to make life better for you.

Storm Drainage Utility
On February 24, 2009, City Council held public hearings to begin creation of a new utility for Storm Drainage. This process began in 1995 and was the result of un-funded federal mandates. The new utility results in a new item on Hurst utility bills: Storm Drainage Fee. The rate for residents is $4 per home water meter. This is equivalent to $1.93 per apartment unit and $1.19 per 1000 impervious square feet for commercial properties. This new utility will help pay for water quality testing in streams, additional maintenance of waterways, more storm drainage construction projects, more erosion control projects and computer software for tracking more detailed permits and work order management. Read more on the Storm Drainage Utility here.
Transforming Hurst: A Vision for the Future
The City of Hurst is transforming in a big way. With vacant land as a rare commodity, Hurst got creative in coming up with innovative ways to continue to develop and redevelop the City. In an effort to keep Hurst on the forefront of development in the area and provide a stable tax base for the future, the progressive Hurst City Council and staff identified three corridors of the city as areas with the potential to redevelop structured business retail and residential growth: West Pipeline Road, Hurst Town Center and the Bellaire Shopping Center. Continuing to build on tradition and planning for the future are what will keep the City of Hurst an area leader in development. Visit the Transforming Hurst Website to see and learn more.
The Hurst Conference Center is coming soon! For information on rates, amenities and menu options click here.
