Where We Live - Spring 2012 Issue
Welcome to the seventeenth issue of Where We Live and Happy New Year! We hope that 2012 is treating you well so far. The first two months of the new year have been busy ones at Hurst City Hall. Plans are underway for our new Justice Center which will address the decade-old problem of space and parking for our police department and court room. We are also in the middle of planning for our new website. This is the first re-design of our web site in ten years and to say we’re excited would be putting it mildly. Speaking of our new site, we want your input! We have added a couple of questions to our annual citizen survey and we want to hear from you. Take the survey here. Our city web site isn’t the only way you can stay connected with your city. See page 12 for all of the ways you can follow the city of Hurst. Did you know that Hurst is one of the leading Tarrant County cities in social media? We’re proud to connect with our residents, businesses and visitors and hope you’ll join in soon.
Did you make a New Year’s resolution to get healthy? Our Recreation Center has a wide variety of classes and programs designed to help you do just that. Check out some of our new programs and offerings in the recreation section, starting on page 24. Read the magazine.
Chisholm Park Makes Neighborhood Fishin’ Easy
The Neighborhood Fishin’ pond at Chisholm Park brings the great outdoors into the city, providing family fishing opportunities close to home for city-dwelling Texans. Hurst is one of 5 DFW area neighborhood lakes that receive frequent stockings of catfish in summer and rainbow trout in winter, which makes for good fishing throughout the season.
TPWD has partnered with the City of Hurst to provide a quality local fishing experience at Chisholm Park. The pond has excellent bank access while the park has many amenities including a large picnic pavilion, a kid’s playground, a water park, and restroom facilities. The TPWD Inland Fisheries Division provides fisheries management expertise and fish for regular stockings. The City of Hurst pays a fee for the stocked fish, and provides and maintains the facilities to ensure a quality fishing experience.
A valid freshwater fishing license is required to fish at Chisholm Park unless the angler is 16 years old or younger. Fishing is allowed by pole and line only (no nets or other devices), with a limit of two fishing poles per person. There is no minimum length limit and a 5 fish daily bag limit per angler for both channel catfish and rainbow trout. (Fish species identification chart) There is no minimum length regulation on channel catfish in CFL’s.
Stocking dates are subject to change because of weather and fish availability.
The fish stocking plan consists of bi-weekly stockings of channel catfish or rainbow trout. Channel catfish (12 inches) are stocked from April through November, with the exception of August, and rainbow trout (9-12 inches) December through March.
No stocking of catfish is done in early August due to water quality.
Trout stocking dates for the 2011-12 winter season during the weeks of November 28, December 12 & 26, 2011. In 2012 the weeks are January 9 & 23, February 6 & 20 and March 5.
Neighborhood Fishin’ receives statewide support from Toyota, the Texas Bass Classic Foundation, and the Sport Fish Restoration Program.
