John Butler Memorial Senior Banquet
In
1978, Park Board member John Butler proposed the idea of a Senior
Banquet as a free holiday dinner for 850 Hurst senior citizens. Since the first banquet in 1978, the event has grown into the social
event of the year for many Hurst senior citizens. The banquet program
features entertainment, dinner, and door prizes and is held at the
Hurst Recreation Center each December. In 2001, the banquet was
renamed in memory of its founder, John Butler.
Golden
Couples
Golden Couples is a fairly new special event created in 1997 to
honor Hurst couples married 50+ years. The event features a live
band playing the big band sounds many of the couples grew up enjoying,
plus cake, punch, and portraits provided by Banks Photography. The
event is held at the Brookside Center each spring.
