The City of Hurst is accepting applications for the position of ANIMAL SERVICES OFFICER to enforce city ordinances and state laws as pertains to animals and maintain shelter to meet State standards. POSITION REQUIRES SOME WEEKEND AND EVENING HOURS PLUS OVERTIME, AS NEEDED.
Essential Job Functions:
Enforces city ordinances and state laws pertaining to animals. Picks up stray and unwanted animals. Takes citizen complaints in person or by telephone related to vicious dogs, stray animals, barking dogs, and related calls. Maintains shelter to conform to State Health Code. Includes lifting bag of dog food from storage area to empty into container (load weight – 50 lbs.) and moving full food container from fill area to normal placement (total body push/pull force – 25 lbs., distance = 20 feet, frequency = 1/day). Maintains required records. Performs other related duties as assigned. Must be available for weekends and evening hours and for overtime, as needed.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Skills in use of animal restraints. Knowledge of animal behavior and city ordinances and state laws pertaining to animal control. Ability to work and communicate effectively with co-workers and the public, especially during stressful situations. Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, bend, stoop, twist, lift, push, and pull under all types of conditions for extended periods of time to complete job assignments. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and follow safety procedures and city rules and codes. Ability to sit for up to one (1) hour while operating a pickup truck on patrol. Ability to maintain accurate records with attention to detail.
Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent, one year related experience, and Class C Texas driver’s license with a good driving record required.
