Back of an MICU.The Hurst Fire Department is constantly growing and improving its personnel and equipment. From 1968 to 1971, we grew from 6 men to 29 paid positions. This included a paid fire chief, fire marshal, 7 lieutenants and 24 firefighters. Currently in 2008 we have 51 responding personnel and 6 administrative personnel.
In 1972 there were 19 certified emergency medical technicians with a private ambulance response.
In 1975 we gained our first paramedic and in 2003 we have 44 firefighter paramedics, two first line
Medical Intensive Care Unit ambulances and one in reserve. Each MICU is equipped as a remote emergency room and provides stabilization care until the patient is turned over to the hospital. Each first aid request will involve an engine company with 3 persons and a MICU with 2 paramedics.
The Hurst Fire Department is committed to providing the best emergency medical care possible through equipment, training and personnel. All new recruits must be a certified paramedic.

AmbulanceCity Implements Ambulance Subscription Service

The City of Hurst is offering citizens an ambulance subscription service to help offset the high costs of emergency ambulance transportation. Insurance companies routinely do not pay the entire amount of ambulance transportation, leaving the patient with the responsibility of paying the balance of the bill. The purpose of the subscription service is to cover the amount not covered by your insurance provider or Medicare. For $60 per year per family, you will never have to worry about paying an ambulance bill.

Enrollment for 2011 begins October 1, ends December 31st. Click here for application form. For more information call 817-788-7238.

You can mail the form and enrollment fee to Hurst Fire Department Ambulance Subscription Service, 2100 Precinct Line Rd., Hurst, Tx 76054. You may also bring the completed form and enrollment fee to Fire Station 1 located at the above address, Monday through Friday.

Program Summary:
• Cost is $60.00 per calendar year, renewed annually.
• Covers all immediate family members of the household that reside at the place of residence in Hurst which includes applicant, spouse and children under the age of 25 that are full-time students. Children over 18 (that are not full-time students) and Medicaid recipients are not covered by this subscription.
• Saves out of pocket expense for emergency ambulance transportation by paying the amount not covered by health care insurance, Medicare, and other supplemental medical insurance.
• Provides the needed insurance information to expedite billing.
• No bill for the unpaid portion of the service not paid by the insurance provider.
• The plan covers you from January 1 to December 31 of the enrollment year.
