The Hurst Fire Department is constantly growing and improving its
personnel and equipment. From 1968 to 1971, we grew from 6 men to
29 paid positions. This included a paid fire chief, fire marshal,
7 lieutenants and 24 firefighters.
Currently in 2008 we have 51 responding personnel and 6 administrative
personnel.
In 1972 there were 19 certified emergency medical technicians with
a private ambulance response.
In 1975 we gained our first paramedic
and in 2003 we have 44 firefighter paramedics, two first line
Medical
Intensive Care Unit
ambulances and one in reserve. Each MICU is equipped as a remote
emergency room and provides stabilization care until the patient
is turned over to the hospital. Each first aid request will involve
an engine company with 3 persons and a MICU with 2 paramedics.
The Hurst Fire Department is committed to providing the best emergency
medical care possible through equipment, training and personnel.
All new recruits must be a certified paramedic.
City Implements Ambulance Subscription Service
The City of Hurst is offering citizens an ambulance subscription
service to help offset the high costs of emergency ambulance transportation.
Insurance companies routinely do not pay the entire amount of ambulance
transportation, leaving the patient with the responsibility of paying
the balance of the bill. The purpose of the subscription service
is to cover the amount not covered by your insurance provider or
Medicare. For $60 per year per family, you will never have to worry
about paying an ambulance bill.
Enrollment
for 2011 begins October 1, ends December 31st.
