Citizen of the Year
Citizen of the Year is an annual program honoring Hurst residents who have made significant contributions to the Hurst Community. Award recipients must be dedicated and active in promoting and enhancing the “Quality of Life” in the City of Hurst and they must demonstrate their insight and abilities in addressing community-based issues. There are four annual Award categories: Pioneer, Community Service, Leadership Service, and Youth Leadership Service. Nominating Packet available for download. |

Youth in Government
This program, developed in conjunction with Birdville and HEB ISD, kicks off in September. Students who are Junior level or above at Birdville or LD Bell High Schools can apply. Up to eleven students will be sponsored by the City Council to participate in the coming year’s program. Students will not only learn about subjects that involve youth issues with municipal government, but they will also gain the needed experience for many programs such as International Baccalaureate, Senior Projects, Texas Scholars, and much more. The Joe Watson Scholarship Fund
This is a component fund of the Community Foundation of North Texas, may award one or more scholarships for a minimum of $2,000 each year to a graduating senior who is a resident of the City of Hurst, Texas or a current participant in the HEBISD Criminal Justice Program or a child of a City of Hurst police officer. Students who are awarded the scholarship may re-apply in each of the three succeeding years for an additional scholarship of $2,000 per year if they meet the re-application criteria.
