Thank you for your interest in the Hurst Recreation Center. If you already have an Annual Pass, or are considering the purchase of an Annual Pass, we hope the following Frequently Asked Questions will be helpful to you and your family.
| QUESTION |
ANSWER |
Do I have to reside in Hurst to purchase an Annual Pass?
|
No. Both Hurst residents and on-residents may purchase an Annual Pass. The fees are listed at the bottom of the page. |
| If I don’t want to purchase an Annual Pass, is there a “Daily Pass” that I can purchase instead? |
Yes. Patrons, who do not wish to purchase an Annual Pass, can purchase a Daily Pass. The fees are listed at the bottom of the page. |
| How is Hurst “residency” defined? |
A patron is determined to be a Hurst Resident if: 1.) the patron resides within the Hurst city limits, 2.) pays property taxes to the City of Hurst, and 3.) pays a City of Hurst water bill. For those patrons who live in apartments and do not pay property taxes or water bills, a lease agreement from a community within the Hurst city limits will reflect your status as a Hurst resident. |
The address on my driver’s license reads “Hurst”. Why am I not considered a Hurst resident?
|
Many of our patrons have a Hurst address on their driver’s license because a Hurst Post Office delivers their mail. These patrons actually reside within the city limits of Euless, Fort Worth, or North Richland Hills, and pay both property taxes and water bills to one of these cities, and not to the City of Hurst. Therefore, these patrons are not Hurst residents. |
Can a friend or visitor use the Recreation Center as a guest of mine?
|
The Recreation Center is available to all patrons once they have paid the appropriate fee. There is not a “Guest/Visitor” fee. The guest/friend/visitor would pay the appropriate fee based on being a resident or non-resident. All patrons entering the Recreation Center must provide proof of Hurst residency or pay the non-resident fee. |
| I don’t have a photo I.D. May I still use the Recreation Center? |
For safety and security reasons, an I.D. Card that includes a photo is required. |
| The only photo I.D. that I have is a school I.D. May I use this? |
A school I.D. card can be used. However, a patron that uses a school I.D. will have to pay the appropriate fees based on being a resident or non-resident. If the school I.D. does not list a home address, the patron must prove Hurst residency to pay the resident fee. If the school I.D. does not list a date of birth, the patron cannot use the Fitness Center without proof of being the proper age to do so. |
| What all does my Annual or Daily Pass entitle me to? |
Once a patron has paid the Annual or Daily Fee, the patron may use the Fitness Center, participate in Open Play Basketball/Volleyball, Racquetball, and use the Jogging/Walking Track. There are age restrictions to use the Fitness Center, Racquetball Courts, and Jogging/Walking Track. Class Registration Fees, and the use of the Tennis Center, and Aquatics Centers are not included in the Recreation Center Annual/Daily Pass. |
| Once I have the actual Annual Pass or Daily Pass card, what do I do with it? |
Upon checking in at the front desk, the Recreation Center staff will ask you what activity you will be participating in. The staff will keep your card at the front desk, and if you are going to use the Cardio Room, or the second floor Fitness Areas, the staff will issue you a magnetic access card so that you can enter these areas. (A separate card is required for the Cardio Room and the second floor Fitness Areas). If you are participating in Open Play Basketball, Racquetball, or using the Jogging/Walking Track, the staff will also keep your card at the front desk. When a patron is ready to leave and returns to the front desk, the card will be returned to the patron.
A patron may also use their card, or other photo I.D. to check out basketball, racquetball, and table tennis equipment. Lap-counters for use on the Jogging/Walking Track are also available for check out. When the patron returns the equipment to the front desk, their card or I.D. will be returned. |
| How old do I have to be to participate in the Fitness Center, play Racquetball, and use the Jogging/Walking Track? |
Patrons must be 16 years of age to use the Fitness Center, and no patrons under the age of 16 are allowed in the Fitness Center. To play Racquetball, a patron must be 16 years of age, or must be accompanied in the Racquetball Court by a responsible person 18 years of age or older. The Jogging/Walking Track requires all patrons who are 12 years of age and younger to be supervised and within arm’s reach of an adult at all times. |
| Is childcare provided? |
No. The Hurst Recreation Division does not offer childcare. Instead, we offer a wide variety of classes, activities, and special events for children of all ages. Parents are encouraged to register their children for these fun and educational opportunities. |
| Can I use the gymnastics equipment or spinning bikes? |
For safety reasons, only patrons who are enrolled in a Gymnastics or Spinning Class may use the gymnastics equipment and the spinning bikes, as these patrons will be under the direct supervision of the instructor. Patrons who are enrolled in one of these classes may not use the equipment at other times outside of their designated class times. |
| What type of shoes should I wear? |
For safety reasons, those patrons who are using the Fitness Center, Racquetball Courts, or participating in athletic activities in the main gymnasium must wear proper athletic footwear (walking/running/tennis/basketball shoes). Patrons may not wear street shoes, loafers, boots, flip-flops, open-heeled shoes, or sandals in any of these areas. Patrons using the Jogging/Walking Track are permitted to wear any type of shoe that does not damage the track’s multi-purpose surface.
Shirts must be worn at all times in the Recreation Center. Women who wear a sports bra to work out, must also wear a shirt. Patrons cannot enter the Recreation Center while wearing wet swim suits. |
| How do I make a Racquetball Court reservation? |
Racquetball Court reservations may be made 24 hours in advance, and patrons may do so in person or by calling the Recreation Center front desk at (817) 788-7325. |
| Can I rent a meeting room at the Recreation Center? |
The meeting/classrooms at the Hurst Recreation Center are used primarily for the Center’s popular Classroom Program. During classroom sessions, meeting/classrooms are only available for rental on Sunday afternoons. Please contact the Recreation Division administrative office at (817) 788-7320 for rental information. |
| May I register for classes by phone? |
All class registrations must be done in person, online, or via fax. There are specific dates for both Hurst residents and non-residents to register for classes. Please refer to the current issue of Where We Live brochure for more information on registering for classes. |
May I take food or drinks into the Recreation Center?
|
Patrons are welcome to bring food and drinks into the lobby and Game Room. However, food and drinks are not allowed in the Gymnasiums or Racquetball Courts. Patrons using the Fitness Center or Jogging/Walking Track may take sealable bottles/containers of water into these areas. |
| Can I request to change the channel on one of the televisions in the Cardio Room? |
The Recreation Center staff will be glad to change the channels for you provided another patron is not watching the television that you want to change the channel on. Prior to asking for the channel to be changed, please check with other patrons, as a courtesy, to see if they are watching that particular TV/channel. |
| Is there a “waiting list” that is used when all of the treadmills or crosstrainers are being used? |
Please use the dry-erase boards that are located throughout the Fitness Center when all of the treadmills/crosstrainers/rowing machines/bikes/stairclimbers are in use. Each piece of equipment has a number or letter on it. Decide which piece of equipment you would like to use, and write your name on the dry-erase board adjacent to the number/letter for that particular piece of equipment. When you sign-in, you must also indicate the current time-of-day. After you have done this, the patron using that particular piece of equipment must finish their workout in 20 minutes. Once 20 minutes have elapsed from the time you signed in, the patron using the equipment will complete their workout and let you start your workout. This will allow patrons to never have to wait more than 20 minutes to workout. As a courtesy to the other patron, please notify the patron using the equipment that you are waiting. During peak-use times, patrons must limit their workouts to 20 minutes. |
| Does the Recreation Center have a Personal Trainer? |
Yes. If you are interested in scheduling one, or a series, of personal training sessions, please notify the front desk staff. They will assist you with registration and payment. Once you are registered, your contact information will be given to the Personal Trainer, and you will be contacted to set-up an appointment time. |
| Does the Recreation Center have showers available? |
Yes. There are lockers and showers that are available for patrons to use in the restrooms that are adjacent to the front desk. Patrons will need to bring their own towels. Padlocks are available for check out at the Front Desk. However, the Recreation Center staff recommends leaving all valuables at home. |
These increases effective January 2, 2010.
