CoverWhere We Live - Summer 2012 Issue

Welcome to the eighteenth issue of Where We Live. With such a mild winter, it’s hard to believe that summer is just around the corner. Let’s hope that this summer’s temperatures are mild too. After all, summer is one of our favorite times of the year! We’re putting the final touches on our signature event, Hurst Stars and Stripes, and this year’s show promises to be one of our best ever. There are also a lot of exciting new events happening at the Hurst Conference Center this Spring and Summer and you’re invited! See page 10 for all of the details.

The excitement in Hurst is not just centered around events though. We’ve got big plans for our city and we’re sharing them with you in this issue. We’re planning for a new justice center that will help address spacing and efficiency issues that have plagued the police and municipal court departments for years. You can read about what we’ve got in mind on page 12. Our city web site is getting a major overhaul too and we can’t wait to share it with you this summer. We’re making it easier to find all of the information you want to know about and we think it looks pretty good too. Read the magazine.

Neighborhood fishingChisholm Park Makes Neighborhood Fishin’ Easy

The Neighborhood Fishin’ pond at Chisholm Park brings the great outdoors into the city, providing family fishing opportunities close to home for city-dwelling Texans. Hurst is one of 5 DFW area neighborhood lakes that receive frequent stockings of catfish in summer and rainbow trout in winter, which makes for good fishing throughout the season.
TPWD has partnered with the City of Hurst to provide a quality local fishing experience at Chisholm Park. The pond has excellent bank access while the park has many amenities including a large picnic pavilion, a kid’s playground, a water park, and restroom facilities. The TPWD Inland Fisheries Division provides fisheries management expertise and fish for regular stockings. The City of Hurst pays a fee for the stocked fish, and provides and maintains the facilities to ensure a quality fishing experience.

A valid freshwater fishing license is required to fish at Chisholm Park unless the angler is 16 years old or younger. Fishing is allowed by pole and line only (no nets or other devices), with a limit of two fishing poles per person. There is no minimum length limit and a 5 fish daily bag limit per angler for both channel catfish and rainbow trout. (Fish species identification chart) There is no minimum length regulation on channel catfish in CFL’s. Stocking dates are subject to change because of weather and fish availability. 2010 Fishing Derby

The fish stocking plan consists of bi-weekly stockings of channel catfish or rainbow trout. Channel catfish (12 inches) are stocked from April through November, with the exception of August, and rainbow trout (9-12 inches) December through March. No stocking of catfish is done in early August due to water quality.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will stock Chisholm Park Pond with 12” channel catfish during the following weeks: April 23 • May 7, 21 • June 4, 18 • July 2, 16, 30 • September 3, 17 • October 1, 15, 29. Please check TPWD website, Neighborhood Fishin’ at www.neighborhoodfishin.org.

Neighborhood Fishin’ receives statewide support from Toyota, the Texas Bass Classic Foundation, and the Sport Fish Restoration Program. To learn more about Neighborhood Fishin’ please call 817-732-0761 You may also check out their fishing video on YouTube.
