Animal Services

Animal Shelter Assistant

Requirements: Must be animal-friendly, morning or afternoon shifts available, days flexible.

Description: Assist with cleaning of shelter. Answering telephones. Assist public with inquiries and tours.

Qualifications: Must be animal-friendly, able to accurately follow instruction; no other experience required. 18 years of age. Time Commitment: Hours can be arranged Monday through Saturday; morning and afternoon shifts available. No Criminal Record. Training: Will be provided as needed .

Special Requirements: Physical Demands: See, hear, talk, write, walk, sit, stand, stoop, bend, squat, push, and pull.
Mental Demands: Speak and write clearly, read and comprehend; comprehend, retain, and follow oral and written instructions; effectively communicate.

Environmental Conditions: The volunteer will work inside and be protected from most weather conditions; works in a sometimes noisy, allergen-sensitive environment.  While cleaning the shelter, the volunteer will be working in an environment with a strong odor and must be willing to get dirty.  Will have great interaction with animals and public.

Filing Assistant

Requirements : Minimum age: 18, Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week; Hours can be arranged Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm. No Criminal Record. An extensive background check will be conducted

Duties: Assist the department in filing paperwork, Shred documents, and Possible assistance in various other assignments within the Police Department.

Qualifications: Must be able to accurately follow instructions, read, sort, and file. The ability to work under minimal supervision is necessary. Must have experience using computers. The ability to understand accreditation standards is required. Must be trustworthy and dependable.

Training: Will be provided as needed.
Special Requirements: See, hear, talk, write, walk, sit, stand, stoop, bend, squat, push, and pull; good manual dexterity required.
Mental Demands: Read and file, both alphabetically and numerically; comprehend, retain, and follow oral and written instructions; effectively communicate.
Environmental Conditions: The volunteer will work inside and be protected from weather conditions; works in an office-type setting. Will have minimal interaction with the public.

 

Building Inspections/Neighborhood Services (BINS)

Scanner Assistant
1501 Precinct Line Rd.

Description: Scan copies of certificate of occupancies and attach them to their related permit in our permitting software system. Possible assistance with other assignments within BINS.
Qualifications: Must have experience using computers (particularly scanning documents) and office equipment.  Must be dependable.  Must be able to dress in business casual attire and present a professional demeanor.
Requirements: Minimum age: 18. Hours can be arranged Monday through Friday from 8 am to noon and from 1 - 5pm. 
Training: Will be provided as needed.

Physical and Mental Demands: Physical Demands:  See, hear, talk, write, walk, sit, stand, stoop, bend, squat, push, and pull.  Must be able to understand the task assigned or ask for clarification and to work with little supervision

Environmental Conditions: The volunteer will work indoors. High traffic and distractions in immediate area.  Top

Organizational Assistant/File Clerk

Time: 4 hours per week; Friday between 1 pm and 5 pm
Description: File and type, create, implement, and maintain filing system. Prepare informational packets for the public. Perform other clerical support duties as assigned. Training will be provided as needed.

Qualifications: Must be able to accurately follow instructions. Prior secretarial experience preferred. Must understand proper protocol for handling sensitive/confidential information. Computer experience preferred but not required. Should have experience working in a multi-manager office setting. No criminal record. Minimum age is 18 years old.

Mental Demands: Speak clearly; read and comprehend; retain, comprehend, and follow oral and written instructions; effectively communicate.

Qualifications: Ability to file in alphanumerical order. Good organizational skills. Skills test required. Must be dependable. Ability to lift light to medium weight materials. No criminal record. Minimum age is 18 years old.

Special Requirements: Physical Demands: See, hear, talk, write, walk, sit, stand, stoop, bend, squat, push, and pull. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, orally and in writing. Ability to operate a computer keyboard.
Mental Demands: Speak clearly; read and comprehend; retain, comprehend, and follow oral and written instructions; effectively communicate.

Environmental Conditions: Volunteer work is predominantly indoors, occasional assistance with outdoor programs. Moderate traffic and distractions in immediate area.


Community Services Division

Train Maintenance Assistant

Time: Hours can be arranged Monday through Friday from 1-5 p.m.
Duties: Grease, oil, and maintain engines and cars. Clean and maintain track. Keep remote control system operable. Perform other maintenance as required for operation.

Qualifications: The Hurst Overland Reader’s Railroad is a G-scale model train that circles above the Youth Services Department on a 30’ x 30’ double track suspension system. Qualified applicants must have knowledge of G-scale trains and the ability to disassemble, lubricate, and reassemble engine and cars.

Special Requirements: Physical Demands: See, hear, talk, write, walk, sit, stand, stoop, bend, squat, push, and pull. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population, orally and in writing. Ability to operate a computer keyboard.

Chess Practice Mentor

Time: First Saturday of Each Month from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Duties: Aid attendees in practicing chess, setting up games as needed . Provide basic instruction of the game when asked.

Qualifications: Knowledge of the rules and objective of the game of chess is required. Qualified applicants must be able to understand and follow written instructions and to communicate and aid persons of all ages in the game of chess.

Requirements: Minimum age 16. No criminal record.
Mental Demands: Speak and write clearly, read and understand; comprehend, retain, and follow oral and written instructions; effectively communicate.
Environmental Conditions: The volunteer will work inside and be protected from weather conditions; works in a clean, well-ventilated, and well-lighted environment. Moderate traffic and immediate distractions in immediate area.
