Not that we anticipate the hot Texas temperatures letting up anytime soon… Articles include information on how your student can join other outstanding area students involved in Youth In Government, details about our grand opening festivities for the Hurst Conference Center, how you can follow your city through social media, and what’s going on at the Hurst Public Library and the Hurst Senior Citizen’s Activities Center. Just to name a few. In the recreation section you’ll get the scoop on Campfire Stories, the John Butler Memorial Senior Citizens Banquet and of course, the Christmas Tree Lighting. Youth in Government Program Sign-up
The City of Hurst Youth in Government Program is a dynamic
group created by the Hurst city council that gives the city’s
youth a unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at
local government. This program, in it's ninth year, will kick off in October. Students who are Junior
level or above can apply. Students
will not only learn about subjects that involve youth issues
with municipal government, but they will also gain the needed
experience for many programs such as International Baccalaureate,
Senior Projects, Texas Scholars, and much more. Download the application here.
Community Powered Revitalization (CPR)
The Euless Revitalization (ER) Program has recently expanded their partnership with 6Stones to now include the Cities of Hurst and Bedford, many more local businesses, nonprofit organizations and churches. With these new partnerships the name of the program has been changed to reflect the nature of the work that is being done. Therefore, the ER Program will now be known as the Community Powered Revitalization (CPR) Program.
Our first joint repair projects will take place October 22-23 in Hurst, Euless, and Bedford. Volunteers are needed for home repair, painting and landscaping, light construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and roofing. There is something for everyone no matter what skill level. Site captains and experienced team leaders will be on site at each home to lead the effort. Sign up to volunteer here. Read more about CPR and download an application packet go here.
Transforming Hurst: A Vision for the Future
The City of Hurst is transforming in a big way. With vacant land as a rare commodity, Hurst got creative in coming up with innovative ways to continue to develop and redevelop the City. In an effort to keep Hurst on the forefront of development in the area and provide a stable tax base for the future, the progressive Hurst City Council and staff identified three corridors of the city as areas with the potential to redevelop structured business retail and residential growth: West Pipeline Road, Hurst Town Center and the Bellaire Shopping Center. Continuing to build on tradition and planning for the future are what will keep the City of Hurst an area leader in development. Visit the Transforming Hurst Website to see and learn more.
